| Sid - Liedermacher | | |
|
Sid, whose full name is Siddhartha Peghini, is something like the rapping Hofnarr of the German hip hop and songwriting world. His version of a singer-songwriter is worlds apart from the dusty old image of a bearded folksinger minstrel. Sid’s roots are somewhere between Hannes Wader and Eminem, and his German language songs illustrate intelligent fun with wordplay, and respect for the musical styles from which he takes his inspiration.

Sid - Liedermacher | |
|
Sid wanders purposefully from hip hop and latin to unconventional blues, to ethnic inspired. He also does not, himself, shy away from pop hits, but always stays true to the songwriter maxim: every song should be able to be played on a guitar.
It’s no surprise that Sid illustrates his lyrics to the fullest advantage during his solo appearances, during which he pays them particular attention. With humor and irony, and not without a pinch of cynical critique, they move on the razor’s edge between real seriousness and stoic sarcasm. Laconic everyday dramas and absurd caricatures meet in melancholic ballads and loquacious, overboard rap passages.
His appealing and unpretentious stage show always leaves room for improvisation and spontaneity. Free from affectation, he seems to be at home on stage, whether in solo appearances with a guitar, or in jam sessions with freestyle rap.
Besides being a singer-songwriter, Sid has also made a name for himself as a DJ, presenting the radio show “Polykultur” once a month. His extensive involvement with each musical persuasion finds expression in his own music: modern sampling technology and up-to-date rhythms find a place in his songs, as do traditional instruments from different cultures.
It is clearly audible, for example, in “Adventsprojekt”, which he initiated in 1993 and has, since then, produced Christmas songs at irregular intervals for the project. Meanwhile he has incorporated a number of guest musicians, allowing his royalty-free give-away songs to bloom.
